For the VW freaks Probably the 1977-1979 locally built model; less likely a 1976 (or 1975??) assembled in Mex from German CKD; or most unlikely, a 1975 built-in-Germany demo/eval model. -- Last edit: 2011-07-04 18:57:49 |

I agree. Looks more like origin back alley or recycling centre to me. -- Last edit: 2011-07-04 12:53:37 |

You can also read more about it in the "VWs of the World" book preview on Amazon (p. 66) -- Last edit: 2011-07-04 17:35:17 |

Created by Volkswagen AG, [...] It was built between 1975–79, with only 2,600 units produced in completely knocked down kits in Hanover, Germany I really didn't know that. There was a primitive CKD-truck like that, meant for developing countries (one of it is left in the Museum or the AutoStadt in Wolfsburg - but it looks different somehow). I've read somewhere, that VW had realized, that the developing countries prefer real trucks, cars and vans, so this project was dropped. Only a handful were exported, the most to Ethiopia, but Mexico wasn't listed. @owlman: the VW-book, you are mentioned, is not really to recommend. It was written by an American and the most informations are about the VW's, made in or made for the USA. Many informations about models, which were never sold in the USA, are missing, resp. are definetely wrong. It would have been better, if the writer would have done a better and more carefuller research about non-US-models -- Last edit: 2011-07-04 19:02:22 |

@ingo: Good to know; I'll be wary using that book for reference in the future. |
