The Battle of Britain took place in 1940, the MG TC was built from 1946 to 1949. Little chance that a TC would appear in a movie situated 5 years before the car was ever released. In theory, the car could have been an MG TA or TB, which were the pre-war equivalent of the TC. But the pictures give it away: the octagonal instrument cluster is from a P-type MG, built from 1934 to 1936. Moreover, the rear end of the car is that of a 4-seater, and the T-series was built as a 2-seater only. There was the PA and the PB, but visually there is no difference. Since many more PA's were built than PB's my guess is a PA 4-seater. |

There is a difference visually between the PA and PB: the PA has a honeycombed grille and the PB has vertical slats. Alas the pictures here are to dark, but I agree that PA is more probable than PB |

Sorry guys, but all of you are completely wrong. This MG is a six-cylinder, listen to the sound!! So it is either a F- or a L-type (not a K or N, they looked different). These Cars we're built from about 1932 h 1934, so a F- or L-type would Go perfektly with the setting of the mobile. |

FYY 942 was a Jan-Feb 1940 London plate and nothing found from check sites, but naughty film makers have been known to invent screen plates. However naughty film makers have also been known to dub racier engine noises if the original sound wasn't exciting enough, so the soundtrack is not a totally reliable piece of evidence. That said, what do the Wise Council Of Old Car Experts think of Shellac's comment?? Worth a reconsideration?? |

As you know, I very rarely watch films, so it will come as no surprise to you all that I haven’t seen this one. Looking at the car, and ignoring the noises possibly emanating from the mighty 1086cc 41bhp six, I have to agree that it looks like an L1 Magna, the dashboard looks right for the model, as does the back of the car. I am no expert on MGs, preferring sports cars with a bit more power, however, you may wish to look at the following link, and compare and contrast, especially the front mudguards, the scuttle and the dashboard. -- Last edit: 2018-09-02 09:10:47 |
