Ford in the background? And on insideline.com they said Flow wasn't based on a real car. |

I could've swore Chrysler had a concept car like her in the late-1950's. |

This is supposed to be a Motorama (GM) show car. While it doesn't look exactly like one of them, it has some styling cues from the 1951 LeSabre and 1951 XP 300 Motorama show cars. See this link to a picture of the 1951 LeSabre. http://auto.tom.com/img/assets/200308/0829_sm12.jpg |

Here's the quote from IMDB Trivia: Flo isn't based on any single car but shares elements of the 1951 Buick LeSabre, the 1951 Buick XP-300, and the 1957 Chrysler Dart -- all actual show cars. |

Actually there was a Buick XP-75 that you could say looks like "Flo." http://wikicars.org/en/Buick_XP-75 Also the Skylark II: http://wikicars.org/en/Buick_Skylark_II The GM LeSabre had horizontal front wings, not canted as it appears only when "Flo" is smiling. But I have to admit, the side body shaping is closest to the LeSabre, even if the fins are from somewhere else . Link to "www.seriouswheels.com" -- Last edit: 2008-06-04 07:31:18 |

The nose and front quarter trim are LeSabre, the side trim is XP-300, the fins are from the Dart and that's a very Mopar-ish deck lid. www.arabalarim.org/data/media/16/1951_Buick_XP300.jpg www.shorey.net/Auto/American/Chrysler/1957%20Chrysler%20Dart%20Concept%20Car%20Rr%20Qtr.jpg www.autoweteran.gower.pl/concept/1956_Dodge_Dart.jpg -- Last edit: 2008-06-17 16:25:05 |

Nice research! Haven't seen those Chryslers before. I should see the LeSabre and XP-300 this year in Flint, MI! |

Thanks, but I've had Cars of the '50s (www.kiosquauto.com/Product.asp?pid='5829') practically since it was first published in '78 and recognized Flo's various parts immediately. Yeah, that was me who put the trivia in IMDb. Those taillights are something else entirely, no idea if they're just exaggerated from the Dart like the fins or if they had real-world use anywhere. -- Last edit: 2008-06-18 15:14:15 |

I think I've found the source for her taillights! vehicle_185701-Chrysler-Falcon-1955.html |

Plymouth Fury 1960? |

I don't think Flo is a Buick (maybe I'm overthinking this, but if her husband Ramone is a Chevy, wouldn't that mean they're related...?) although, like several cars in this movie, she doesn't appear to be based on one specific model. She's supposedly a 1957 Motorama show car (although, in reality, there was no Motorama show that year), although I think she looks a lot like a Chrysler 300 from somewhere around that era. |

I didn't know of any early-50s cars that had fins at all. That was more of a late-50s thing that peaked in 1959. |
