Plate is a genuinely issued combination, April-July 67.

The vehicle EEC474E, a International (Agric Tractor), is on our database.

I think rather than being International it might only be Supranational based on the numberplate.

A very weak joke: EEC = European Economic Community which is a Supranational organisation.

What was the one Britain were in with a few of the other non-members and the EEC? Norway were in it too. European Customs Union or something like that?

Yes, Britain came together with Ireland in 1973 to the EC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Communities

EFTA - European Free Trade Association - still seems a more attractive idea - much cheaper for a start.

The absolute best of the EU is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Agreement How annoying was it before, when you wanted to import/export anything in Europe? Worst! And expensive plus elaborate paperwork, too.
I like the €, too. Very senseful and useful, when you are travelling in Europe. Although we have it since 9 years, I'm still looking everytime, when I get change at the shop, on the coins, if there are some rare foreign ones. :)

Free trade, political co-operation, removal of restrictions, Court of human rights, consumer and environmental legislation, cultural sharing are all benefits. But EU has become an infrastructure which no longer operates on behalf of its members but pursues its own expansion of powers to take away control of its members to govern their own countries, and is steadily removing itself from democratic accountability with impossible voting systems. Countries should be able to opt in as they want, not prevented from opting out. And it's a huge financial drain in national financial contributions. An uncontrollable structure which feeds its own demands with little attention to its members needs.

Hasn't it always been like that? The aim of the commission is to produce the ever closer union.

I don't think we will ever see a European Superstate though and eventually its development will grind to a halt. Probably quite soon.
