Skoda.co.uk was actually down due to excess traffic after JC's declaration of love for the Yeti. See Link to "briskoda.net" |

1.8 TSI Elegance according to webuyanycars. I was sure this new series started next week |

JC started this feature quite well with a convincing case for why he liked the Yeti and then just lost the plot with increasingly stupid and pointless stunts which became more and more desperate. The helicopter-landing-on the-roof finale was pathetic. |

I think it kinda proves the ridiculous point in comparing cars in style some people do. My Skoda is better than you Maybach, because it is for 5 people etc. I believe JC was being quite a lot ironic. |

I think JC is right with his opinion, that the Yeti is a really good car. Surely the car isn´t faster than a Ferrari, but it´s fast enough with this 160 hp engine. It is by all means better than the VW Tiguan. It´s more spacious, more agile and it costs much less than the VW. -- Last edit: 2011-02-05 12:54:12 |

I've suspected for quite a while that buying a Škoda is a cheap way of buying a Volkswagen ... but with better quality. |

I'd love one, but Skodas aren't sold here. |

Nowadays the rates for shipping cars over that Atlantic are low, so the costs are no problem fore the import - but what's up with passing the US traffic-registration-laws? The choice is big: Link to "suchen.mobile.de" |

It's almost impossible to take an existing car and bring it into compliance with US regulations if it was not originally designed to meet them. In 1993, a company called CXA managed to "federalize" the Citroen XM. They had to make 200 modifications to each car, the price ended up at over $50,000 and they sold less than twenty cars. http://www.citroenet.org.uk/foreign/usa/90-01.html Link to "forum.imcdb.org" http://www.citroen-ca.com/USA.html#anchor116305 |

But there is the possibility to get a registration for classic cars. How old they had to be for that? There are such rules, because the three actially K 70, known in the USA, got an US-registration without bigger problems (the last import was in 2001, brought from Germany by an retired serviceman) The best of the three: http://germancarsforsaleblog.com/1972-volkswagen-k70-sedan/ http://wn.com/Our_USA_VW_K70 (now owned by a in the USA well-known VW-collector) I just cannot find a pic from the marathonmetallic car from New Jersey. @rljuna2: on that K 70 someone had once mounted side reflectors And a lookalike "US-bumper" - nothing more than using the holders for the 1974-Sweden-version (bigger distance for the lamp washer-system) |

To get in under the classic car exemption the car has to be twenty-five years old or more. (Canada has a similar rule with fifteen years as the minimum). I've found an article that covers all the rules for importing non-compliant cars into the US: Link to "www.motivemag.com" |

Very informative, thanks for that. |

I wonder if he genuinely liked this car or he was just trying to be funny. 0-60 in 8 seconds is impressive for something that looks like this (and only has a 1.8 litre engine) -- Last edit: 2011-02-04 20:52:46 |

Yes but you can actually get a Tiguan this year unlike the Yeti. It's worth mentioning that even before Clarkson hailed it the Yeti had a massive waiting list. Now it has a waiting list Ferrari or Aston Martin would kill for. It is probably the best car in this crossover segment. Apparently at least two cars were used. -- Last edit: 2011-02-04 21:18:29 |

If 4WD and sporty diesel performance is not needed then something like a Fiat Cubo would be far more practical in every sense than the Yeti |

@Sandie: a few days ago there was a press-notice by Volkswagen: it's not possible any more to order a new Tiguan for this MY. All dealers are informed, not to make any contracts any more. The plant's capacity is full until the summer-vacations. After them the new version will be released. |

@ingo and Sandie: This is the new VW Tiguan: Link to "www.autobild.de" Looks quite nice, actually. |

Adding [Typ 5L] chassis code for the Yetis. |

Wow, we only have three on the site? This is quite a common car in my country. |

Are you talking about the streetlamp behind it? |
◊ 2012-02-03 21:42 |
The Tiguan looks the same as the whole VW range, it's becoming bland. The Yeti at least manages to have a distinctive look. |

@m.pfaffeneder: I know it, my wife thought about one, but the price is too high. She already made the most economic choice: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/577/img0520vy.jpg/ @93montero: this pic was made in the USA, the architecture in the background is not European. @chicomarx: three weeks ago I'd been with an external expert to a claims-review. By entering his car I said "Oh, the brand new Tiguan?" - "Hum. No. It's the Touareg" So bland they are... |
