1968+ for Italy. The colour is the popular "Capriblau". Did You know that in the last years the Italian market acconted for more than 90 % of the sales of the NSU Prinz 4 ? Ingo, look at the case: You told me that even the Audi 50 had the same story. Well, was the Audi 50 studied by V.A.G. as the successor of the Prinz ? I read so in a book about Audi. -- Last edit: 2011-01-11 19:45:33 |

@electra225: yes, the Italian market was indeed the reason for VW-Audi to continue with the NSU Prinz 4-production until 1973. Without that, it would have been stopped shortly after 1970, as they wanted to get rid of any NSU-stuff back then very soon. The main responsible guy for that was the totally unsympathic Ferdinand Piech. Yes, the Audi 50 was developed by Ludwig Kraus and his (Audi-)team as Prinz-successor. It was taken over as VW Polo, because the management made the decision, that VW shall make the smaller, cheaper cars and Audi the middle and upper class - but no sportscars. They should be named only Porsche. So for that, they took the 924 away from Audi and made a Porsche of it. Originally it was planned and developed as an Audi. P.S. The release of the Fiat 127 has caused the death of the NSU Prinz 4. Immediately after the Fiat was on the Italian market, the selling numbers of the NSU collapsed. As Italy was the only reason for keeping its production running, the production was stopped within a few weeks. |
