Brand new Golf I, semi basic, as it has some trims, but no backup lights. Btw. In these years backup lights had also to be paid extra for basic Golf's and Polo's. |

Maybe backlights for I, but this one is a very early one, what about the exhaust of the muffler? Looks strange!? |

But not the first on IMCDB. ![]() /vehicle_325086-Volkswagen-Golf-Typ-17-1975.html /vehicle_327364-Volkswagen-Golf-Typ-17-1976.html /vehicle_100207-Volkswagen-Golf-Typ-17-1975.html P.S.Sometimes you can find these lamps on spare parts markets. Some Golf I-freaks like them, the most not. So noone buys them. Annother example, that sometimes there exist more parts than appropriate cars. Same with these bumpers: /vehicle_277364-Volkswagen-K70-Typ-48-1971.html ![]() -- Last edit: 2010-10-06 14:42:51 |

seems like 1st generation Golf were popular also in Italy ![]() |

Yes they were, and had backup lights as extra till November 1976 when they became standard in Italy. The colour seems "Marinogelb" so it should be a '76. The plate seems fake |

![]() Otherwise the back panel is not good to see (dovetail or not?). The colour is not any reason. "Marinogelb" was available after summer 1973. And AFAIK not in the 1976-MY any more. ![]() |

No idea. There were some different muffler-makers for the VW-models in the 70ies, especially in Italy, but mainly for the aftersales-market. Sure, all 1974/75-made car-stuff and the cars itself were rust-monsters as its worse, but it's rather not to be expected to see an aftersales-market-muffler at such a brand new car as here. A common VW-muffler, made in the 70ies and 80ies, had at least survived for 1 1/2 to 2 years. Otherwise VW/Audi has always tried not to be depending on only one subcontractor. So it's not too unlikely that they got mufflers not only from Leistritz, Walker (produced in Belgium by van Weezel - the worst junk of all), van Weezel itself or Ernst, also from IMASAF, too. IMASAF had produced VW-mufflers back in the 70ies and still today (our remanufactured K 70-mufflers are from them, too). |

But this car was not older than one Year as the movie was made... So, a new/replaced muffler?? |

Why not? The orignal ones (either made by Leistritz or Bosal/Walker) weren't good quality. Or maybe in Italy they used the local made IMASAF-products. They are fine nowadays. We let produce our mufflers there since 14 years and are very satisfied. The quality is much better, because the tin is thicker and even zinced. The no.1 from this series is still under my car, with only two little holes over all those years. The original ones you usually had to change after 1 1/2 to 2 years. |

Ingo, Marinogelg was added for the Golf in late 1975 as a 1976 model year colour. Before was available for other cars (as the 1200 Jeans for instance). So it could be one of the very early brand new 1976 model year Golf just arrived in Italy in August 1975. I admit it sounds difficult but it isn't the first time we have a next year model in IMCDB. |

@electra225: it's a swallow-tail, so a 1975 only MY. |
