1976+ perhaps, by the plastic mirror, if original. VolksPolizei in DDR had few IIRC. |

No, they hadn't. None of the legendary 10.000 DDR-imported Golf's were given to the police. And none of the GENEX-imports. The Stasi, the secret service, had some civil Western cars, some BMW's, also one Mercedes W116 is known, one one pic I've even seen a Fiat 130, but AFAIK there was never any Western car in official use. And this Golf seems to be a faked police-car. It's an authority-license-plate, but it starts with a 6, which wasn't used for the police. "06" was/is for the red dealer's plates. -- Last edit: 2010-09-04 02:58:55 |

(Actually, I wanted to write this three or four years ago, but as always I forgot). Anyway, I once saw a photo of at least one genuine Golf VP. I don't know, maybe this is really the only one exception. |

P.S.: It is claimed that it was a some sort of test car, and that VW was originally intended to be used in such a more widespread role, but that did not happen. -- Last edit: 2020-07-17 23:17:28 |

VP for Volkspolizei? No, the DDR-authorities never had Western cars in official usage like this. Government and the Stasi-secret service had civil Western cars, but police and military never ever. |
