The 300 SLR had a longer nose and streamlined headlight covers. See: http://www.pistonheads.com/fastcars/mercedes/300SLR-coupe.jpg This car looks more like a 300SL. See: http://www.works-y3f.com/m_cars/1_euro/benz/img/E_300SL.jpg |

As both have same chassis number I am not sure that it is useful to list both separatly (since they are background cars) |

I probably moved too quickly then.... ![]() Looks like they are the same model (and not SLR). So will delete the second car's listing. |

Another 300SL - but its a convertible. Only shown in close-up in the movie, so probably not worth listing on its own. ![]() -- Last edit: 2006-04-11 13:50:21 |

#500 Guido Cestelli Mercedes 300SL ... dnf |
◊ 2015-09-05 17:30 |
I would hazard a guess that the #500 is the car Guido Cestelli-Guidi and the #504 the car Paul Metternich (D)/Wittigo Einsiedel (D) drove on the 1956 Mille Miglia the former did not finish and the latter finished 6th, when I was watching the film the other day it occured to me the producers may have used some stock footage from that event and then got some of the cars from the event for the close up shots in the film. |

Apparently one of the 29 alloy body cars made for competition use, these also had slightly more powerful engine, plexi windows etc. https://automotivemasterpieces.com/cars/AU-20179 |
