Could this be GMC due to red badge on the fender? |
◊ 2010-01-08 22:33 |
Yes, it's a GMC, but also due to the cowl insignia. It has to be any year from 1973 or later, I'll have to check. I've noted such details before. |

Yes, APS221, those did help. 1973-74 GMC Sierra Grande 15 Hundred. -- Last edit: 2010-01-09 04:27:38 |

Is "15 Hundred" the actual model name or what? I had never seen this before. |

I am trying to figure that out now, but if you look at the thumbnail it does say "Sierra Grande 15 Hundred" |

Right, that's what has me stumped. |

after a little searching the "Sierra Grande 15 Hundred" (no backslash) appears to be a 1973-1974 only trim level one notch above the "Sierra Grande" it has specific bodyside and tailgate moldings and is comparable to Chevrolet's "Cheyenne Super 10" |

Excellent work as usual. |

ford guy, "15 Hundred" is really just "1500" spelled out. I've mentioned in the past that GMC has always used four digits for their weight classes on everything but the Astro cabover. |

Ddey65 maybe you should tell GM that because if GMC has always used 4 digits then they badged all of their 1973-1980 trucks wrong (Except the 73-74 Sierra Grande 15 Hundred like seen above) ![]() ![]() Like I said before the Sierra Grande 15 Hundred is a separate trim level. |

Okay, so they did shorten the cowl insignia numbers after 1975, but it was still a 1500. 1973; http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_itemId=48656 and 1975(note the four-digit classification, despite the two-digit cowl insignia); http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_itemId=49013 Chevy did the same thing to their trucks in the late-1950's when they had "Apache 31" badges, and the like. It was still technically a 3100. -- Last edit: 2010-01-09 17:09:02 |

I stand corrected... I guess the info I have on the "Sierra Grande 15 Hundred" being a separate trim level is incorrect (I was going on the word of a guy that just restored one from the frame up). I still dont understand why they would badge these as "15 Hundred" for 73-74, then 15 for 75-80 and then 1500 after that -- Last edit: 2010-01-09 17:17:43 |

Well this just adds more to the confusion with these trucks ![]() |
