I said '64 because this episode originally aired October 7, 1964, and was filmed the previous summer. It would've been cutting it close to get a '65 in there, though not impossible. I suspect the grille was altered to not show the horse badge. That's because Ford didn't provide this vehicle directly to the show (it probably belonged to a cast or crew member) and it would've been a free plug.

Even if the Mustang was on sale from april -64 they are all included in the 1965 modelyear by Ford, their VIN-numbers begin with 5 like all 1965 Fords. So it was a very long modelyear for these, later on these early cars are referred to as 64½ since they have some differences. But they do belong to MY 1965

So do I understand from your argument that there's no such thing as a '64 Mustang?

That´s right, there´s no such thing really. Not in the official records, but they are commonly known as 64½. But that´s made up afterwards.

"64 and a half" is just a nickname.

Same vehicle? Both shows were shot on adjacent sound stages at Desilu at roughly the same time.
