It is a 1941 Lincoln Continental model 65 Convertible Cabriolet with the small parking lights on top of the front fenders, but this car appears to nave undergone modifications .The front bumper is non-standard , 1941's had much slender bumpers with just two small bars under the grille and the rear fenders seem to be of the boxed design as introduced on 1942 Lincolns rather than of the original round 1940-1941 design.It may be that these modifications were made to give the car a revamped ' 42 look.Does any Lincoln enthusiast know something about this? |

I do agree '41 .gif ":)") Arched steering spoke is slightly visible through the front glass. If it is '42 or '46-48, Spoke is straight and round horn-ring must be seen. |

The second small picture of the dashboard shows that this car is definitely based on the Lincoln Continental Convertible model 65 of 1941.The first small picture showing the rear of the car shows that other rear fenders- of the 1942-1948 boxed design- have been bolted onto this car ,with small vertical taillights moved inwards.Oddly enough , the rear bumper seems to be the 1946 design with an additional central immatriculation plate guard.Could be a little bit of a mystery as the movie dates from 1945.The end result of this car is odd and disequilibrated as the original round front fenders do not blend nicely with the boxed rear ones.A nightmare for Edsel Ford and Bob Gregorie !. |

Definitely a '41 Continental with '42 rear fenders, different bumpers in the front, but uses the '41 parking lights and taillights. It's really a neat custom upgrade of the '41. Interior is stock '41 but there is some kind of add-on gauge that I can't identify. Anyone know what that is?? |

i am really fascinated by the movie "detour." the car in the movie is just as fascinating as tom neal and ann savage. the car appears to be modified for some reason. i wonder where the production company obtained it. the rear end of the car seems to have been changed. the back of the rear fenders have areas where the tail lights were once mounted on a previous model. it looks like one of those instances where detroit made a change simply for the sake of change--something the auto makers did a lot of in those days. i do think the car should have been given at least third billing since it was such an integral part of the plot of the movie. |

probably had a lincoln owned by the film company and thru either damage or just wanting something different these guys would just change stuff..just to keep it running.. you never know. my 1940 was used a while back for a Kathy Ireland Macys ad, I wish i had replaced the wing window glass because it was all hazy... but did it recently, wouldeve looked better.. see it on you tube under unclehotrod13 i remember this movie when he opens the hood if im not mistaken maybe the horns are missing? and maybe a clock or thermometer in front of driver? who knows, maybe a replacement oil gauge! or temp gauge, they were hot running!..dident see the horns at that angle.. but no hood ornament, and the antenna in drivers side fender not original, so it was a custom job, probably used many time, different movies, colors, etc... unfortunately to the movie companies they're only props.... -- Last edit: 2014-04-04 23:11:31 |
