I'd say the US Pontiacs had horizontal taillights in 1954. I could only find a 1954 Canadian Pontiac Laurentian with vertical taillights. And 1953 Pontiacs still had the silver streak decoration. So this will rather be a Chevrolet, 1953 or 1954. |

Oh, were these signs really used at US-borders in the 50ies and 60ies? It's the same style like the legendary "You are leaving now the American sector" from West-Berlin until 1990. |

I believe it is a 1953. The 54 had a solid red tailight, and the 53 had a three-piece with a top red triangle, a center red cone, and a bottom white triangle for the backup lights. It looks like this has 53 tailights |
