Boot badges look like Automatic or other long word on left and 3.0 on right, possibly with a smaller letter/number afterwards. |

Is it some mistake on DVLA base? Maybe it's some option for demand. ![]() The length of rear doors isn't obvious at first glance: http://images.forum-auto.com/mesimages/62161/P1070724s.JPG -- Last edit: 2010-12-14 03:01:48 |

As far as I remeber to the BMWs of this series, the S is a caburator Version and the I a Injection, so SI is not possible... |

For 1976-77 the only E3s offered in UK were 3.0Si, 3.0LA and 3.3LiA until April 77 when all E3s discontinued. All have tinted windows and alloys, but no mention of vinyl roof. Automatic boot badge used from Jan 73 (when range was bigger). So 2 questions [1] did 3.0Si have automatic option? If not, I think this is a 3.0LA as I don't believe the badge says 3.3 [2] is this LWB? if not it has to be a 3.0Si automatic (if it existed), if it is then 3.0LA for same reason. |

According RealOEM with BMW parts the RHD 3.0 Si was made since 09/1971 to 02/1977 with manual transmission only. (LHD cars had automatic transmission option for 09/1975). The production of RHD 3.0 L started 01/1975 with AT only and ceased 02/1977. RHD 3.3 L was made in 01/1974-08/1975 period with automatic transmission and 05/1974-12/1974 with manual transmission. RHD 3.3 Li was made in 10/1975-02/1977 period with AT only. |

OK so it can't be a 3.0Si or other swb 3.0, and it can't be a carburetor 3.3L. So has to be lwb and choice of 3.0LA and 3.3LiA, and I'm convinced the badge means 3.0LA, despite the DVLA record. |

Well, actually the reading digits on plate is much easier (however not easy) than on badge. |

I suggest, not to make pull-ups because of the vinyl roof. It's a British car, and in the UK vinyl-roofs were, resp. still are, much more popular than in other countries. Just take a look in UK-classic-car-magazines, how many companies are offering them. Definetely more than on the continent. |

It is a 3.0si. No L cars had vinyl roofs. 3.0si in the uk were all manual. If it had been auto it would have said on the LHS in italics. See 3.3Li which are all auto for reference. this car may have been earlier than 76, as TV crews for some reason seemed to like to change plates on leading cars to the year of the film production. See S plate 3.0si police car from the Sweeney... |

3.0 L -Automatic- is what I see too. Definitely a "0" after the 3. So plate must belong to other car or some DVLA bad sector disk error ?! |

There may be another subtle blip in the DVLA info ... We've identified this vehicle using the details you provided BMW 3.3 LIA 1977 Registration number: PYT 257R Body type: 2 Door Saloon Colour: White Date of first registration: February 1977 DYT 25xR and 26xR are a batch of assorted BMWs, with now a few lost gaps. None of the hits give a white [E3] apart from 257. |

Info is getting worse as the decades pass. Now a 2 door 3.3 L! You mean PYT. Or DYT? Anyway DVLA lost their marbles somewhere |
