These are two different cars. The main pic shows a 4-door sedan (looks like an early AMC Hornet; not sure...), the thumbnail shows a coupe (Camaro?). |

The coupe in the thumbnail is a 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda (1970 based on the stripe pattern). Based on the hood, it's not a Hemi model. |

I don't see any coupes. Instead I see the Dodge Maxi Wagon I identified before, a Volkswagen Bug, and a 4-Door sedan of some kind. |

The brown one seems to be Chrysler Valiant CH series with white back up lens that is required in UK. |

Brown sedan is an Australian Chrysler by Chrysler sedan |

According to IMDB only studio shots were filmed in the UK so how did an Aussie Chrysler end up in this movie? -- Last edit: 2008-04-14 01:29:28 |

They built American-style city streets on the backlot at Pinewood. You can see more of them on the entry for Superman II. /movie_81573-Superman-II.html /vehicle_23142-Plymouth-Fury-1970.html /vehicle_23101-White-Road-Commander.html -- Last edit: 2008-04-14 01:31:29 |

There are quite a few Aussie Valiant exported to UK and it was not a great commercial success. |

I knew they were exported to UK but didn't realise this scene was filmed there as the IMDB list only studio shots filmed in UK. They probably used an Aussie Chrysler because of the American styling |

It's not a Chrysler Valiant it is a Chrysler by Chrysler. See http://www.rootes-chrysler.co.uk/aussie-chry.html "The long wheel base models in the VH, VJ and VK series were known as CH, CJ and CK. These long wheel base models were known as the "Chrysler by Chrysler" and were loaded up with luxury items unseen in Australian made cars. They were available as a four door saloon or as a 2 door hardtop and looked like stretched Valiants. They were introduced as a replacement for Chrysler Australia's previous "top-of-the-range" offering, the Dodge Phoenix, which was imported to Australia as a CKD kit and assembled using some Australian Valiant parts." -- Last edit: 2008-04-15 07:55:18 |

This one should also be listed as a Chrysler by Chrysler /vehicle_105823-Chrysler-SE-CJ-1974.html -- Last edit: 2008-04-25 05:47:13 |

This is a Chrysler CJ - look at the line of the vinyl roof at the rear then do the research - you'll find a CH vinyl roof line is different to this. |

As far as I can tell this was only sold in UK as Chrysler CH Apr 72 to Jan 75 - "Chrysler by Chrysler" was never used here. Its code was [CH] until Jan 74, when it became [CJ], so with the vinyl roof outline as identified by Dino_rider, this car should read 1974 Chrysler CH [CJ]. A few [CK] may have been sold to special order after Jan 76, but very few. |

The Golden Gate bridge scenes were filmed in the UK at RAF Bovingdon on one of the runways, not at Pinewood. |

Or assumed "Chrysler, it must be American", or at least yes, "American-esque". The car is seen so briefly in the film that it would serve as an "OK" stand-in, but of course upon repeat viewings by people even BEFORE VHS / DVD / streaming ability to pause, one will notice things not noted on previous screenings. As an aside, I like this car....it has a more sensible size than what Chrysler offered in the US at the time as it featured more flowing / "tighter" styling. Australia's motor industry was very impressive in taking a completely different path from any American namesake antecedents. |
