Not a Rolls-Royce Phantom V. I'll pass it on to our Staffordshire correspondent for a precise commentary. |

Link to "www.handh.co.uk" As depicted: - 1949 BENTLEY MkVI Standard Steel Saloon in Grey Metallic, first supplied to Prof. (Sir) Robert Reynolds MacIntosh; Nuffield Professor of Anaesthetics - Oxford University, from 1937. Knighted in 1955. Car dated as May 1949. Chassis # B384-EY. BUT Rod Jolley Estate Car coachwork fitted 2000, this image is from before the car was re-bodied as an estate car, and seemingly re-finished in Balmoral Green. 1) Beautifully posed picture, designed to confuse the casual observer, failed miserably. 2) Original incorrect identification as a Royce P5 is obviously the chemically fuelled dream of a teenage scribbler, whose knowledge of real cars lacks quality and depth. The only clue I can offer that this IS the car to which NJO 950 belongs is the early type of 20 shutter radiator grille fitted, but even this is flawed, as the later 18 shutter grille commenced at B163-DZ. I hope that this meets dsl’s requirement for precision, so obviously lacking in the anonymous first attempt, but have to say that in the absence of further photographic evidence I cannot prove that the numberplate wasn’t just screwed onto a passing Mark VI. The car does not appear in the current Bentley Drivers Club membership list, nor in any of my copies of “Members and their Bentleys”. -- Last edit: 2022-06-03 13:16:36 |

Photo after conversion - I'm not really convinced they've achieved a masterpiece. |

I don’t agree inasmuch as it looks better than the contemporary Harold Radford effort. https://www.classicdigest.com/cars/bentley/mk-vi/110903 https://www.flickr.com/photos/zappadong/46831853524 -- Last edit: 2022-06-03 15:32:31 |
