Sad to see that beautiful front loop bumper damaged. I think they only used 70 Polaras in the first year of the series. |

that one might have been the only one.. it's in "one armed bandits" and is rolled about 5 minutes into the show... if it was the only one it could have only been seen in the first 5 epsiodes as tehy were all filmed together in georgia, any later sightings would most likely be stock reused footage |

This is true! This old Polara is only seen in the first episode ("One Armed Bandits") and then never again that I can remember. However, it was in a way seen in every episode for the whole seven seasons---as it's the cop car seen chasing the Dukes in the opening montage as they make the famous huge jump in the General Lee, at the very beginning! An old 1974 AMC Matador is seen chasing the Dukes around the tree during the end credits. For the rest of the show old 1974 or 75 through 1978 Dodge Monacos and Plymouth Furys are the cop cars Rosco, Enos, and Cletus use to chase the General Lee. |

Isn't this the car Cooter stole and rolled at the construction site? Maybe a little off-topic, but isn't it curious how changed the rest of the show's run was from the pilot? Seems Roscoe wasn't such an idiot, and got up to much darker and sinister things than the inept lackey he was portrayed as later. -- Last edit: 2010-04-08 23:31:44 |

Correct observation about Roscoe, pixelkilla. It's a common thing in tv shows to make changes after the pilot before the second episode. Occasionally, actors who play a major role in the pilot are replaced for the second epiosde. |

yes its true, the show was toned down a bit once it switched into a prime time slot later in the first season. Rosco turned from somewhat of a hard nosed cop into the bumbling idiot child like cop everyone knows him for at that time. |

BLK95TA is correct...once the show became so popular with kids and families, producers decided to tone down the show a bit to fit a wholesome family Friday night for TV viewing. The Duke family even ate all their meals together, and worked together to prepare them on the show. Sadly, most families today don't spend any time together--not even at supper. ![]() Besides Rosco's character being toned down, so was Boss Hogg's. In first season Boss cheated on Lulu and was "meaner" than he and Rosco later appeared...starting with 2nd season when the show moved to a Warner bros lot with their own Hazzard set. Personally I liked the first episodes that were actually filmed in rural Georgia (Conyers)...they're so much more "real" than the later ones. |
