In my book there's a FAR Pony Mécanique that looks like this, anybody can confirm this? |

'Pony Mécanique' is the direct translation of 'Mechanical Horse', the name Scammell used for it's first three-wheeled artic tractors. FAR obtained a licence from Scammell and produced the Pony Mécanique from 1937 to 1970. Here we see a design from the late 1950s or early 1960s. |

'Cheval Mécanique' is just a nick-name for FAR productions. This one is the CM 62 produced with this Pelpel cabin since 1953. The 'poney mécanique' (not pony, which is not french word) is the nickname of a smaller type (CM22) with a very different cabin. Note that there is another model of it on the site /vehicle_50650-FAR-CM-62-1954.html |

Thanks, Jean-Marc, now this one is complete! ![]() You know about my limited understanding of the French language ... I just put two and two together with similar sounding words in English or Latin ... and sometimes this makes 5, not 4 ! ![]() |

According to my copy of "Chenard & Walcker-FAR, l'empire disparu de Gennevilliers", the Pelpel cab was first used in 1955 on the CM 70 F, replacing a short-lived CM 70 that used a cab made from Citroën elements. The CM 62 was the original, Scammell-licensed "Cheval mécanique". However, by 1964, the CM 70 F was itself replaced by other types with the same cab. I think the plate reads "PF 75", which would mean 1963, and that year's "Cheval" was the CM 68 F2. -- Last edit: 2024-01-27 02:20:35 |
