Must be a bizarre coincidence, but in 2012 the oldest unrestored Mini - a 1959 Austin Seven surfaced as an incredibly rusty barn find and made £40,000 at auction. XLL 27 was the 8th of its type to come of the production line at Longbridge in May 1959, some three months before the August Mini launch and only three earlier Minis still exist - 621 AOK - in the BMIHT collection at Gaydon while the other two (one of which has been converted into a cabriolet) are in Japan. Apart from being as much rust as metal and a similar muddy porridge colour, the really weird thing is that when found, XLL 27 had a red driver's door - here and here. There was a neatly done Vanguards model - VA01316. |
