Was there a production-line for these Datsuns in South Africa? I remember, that in my vacations over there in 2002 I h've seen a lot of these models, especially as pick-ups, more than in onther countries. And it seemed, that the name Datsun was hold there for longer, when anywhere else it was still named Nissan. Perhaps I'm wrong, but this was my impression. Annother impression was, that the South African made Opel Corsa Pick-up is meant as a successor of these small Datsun-pick-ups. |

P.S. This "Shell"-logo in the nice 60ies-design, I had in my LEGO-box, too![]() |

Datsun's were assembled in South Africa but I don't know since what year. Datsun 1200 Pick-up is still made under name Nissan 1400 Bakkie and is a legend there. http://www.nissan.co.za/vehicles_bakkie.asp?s=2 I think it is easier to mention makes that WEREN'T assembled in South Africa because almost all car manufacturers had assembly plant(s) there. -- Last edit: 2007-12-12 17:44:39 |

By the way, most of this film was shot in Kenya, not South Africa. The Datsun's number plate looks pretty fake. |

Yes, circa 1973 Datsun 1200 Sedan. I've been told they were sold in South Africa through 1976. Sadly production in South Africa ended in November 2007 of the Nissan 1400 LDV, the pickup version of the 1200. http://wiki.datsun1200.com |
