#552 was works 100/4 Lockett/Reid retired with NOJ 392. Team-mates Hadley/Mercer in #548 (NOJ 391) also retired. This was Austin-Healey's debut appearance in a major competitive event, preceded only by a low-key entry in the 1953 Lyons-Charbonnieres rally. Both cars then entered in 1953 Le Mans - NOJ 392 #34 finished 12th, 391 #33 14th, along with 393 which didn't start; however 393 did eventually race at Le Mans in 1955 (Macklin/Leston) when it was hit by Levegh's Mercedes. |
