1963+. I don't think it's an original colour, and there are not too may DSs with an open roof (because standard the roof is made of plastic; to get the open roof option, the roof had to have been made of aluminium).

I never understood why I saw so many Metros in France. Surely there were better things available than a rather bloated and old-fashioned version of the Mini? I wonder if the advertising/marketing promoted it as a successor to the Mini?

British Leyland, BMC, or however the company was called in that years, tried to let the old Mini drop out and to create a next (more modern, bigger, powerfuller and so on) generation. They have failed before (noone really liked the Clubman-nose) and other companies have also failed, when they tried similar things (Citroen with the Dyane for the 2 CV, Renault with the R 6 for the R 4).

Wasn't it the same in the UK? True, a Metro may seem crappy right now. I think 30 years ago it would be considered as a modern, affordable car. Back in 1980 you could chose a Metro, 2cv, 104/Samba or R4 for about the same money. The Metro was surely the newest design...

As far as the body was concerned, yes, but not the best IMHO - and I thought that even then. Except for the hatchback it seemed to offer very little that the Minis I'd owned years before didn't, and to be years behind 70s cars like the Fiat 127. Of the cars you mention I'd rather have bought the R4 or 104.

Of course, I would have chosen something different too, but I think the majority of the buyers looks at the design as to consider it's novelty... a bit absurd and shallow, yes.... but hey it works this way in most arreas I think. :)

ID/DS has a second nose => modelyear 1963 - 1967.
It's not an original, nor period style open roof. But looks like an aftermarket 80-s smoke coloured plexiglass roof. Brrrr.... :cry:
Fits with the surrounding horrible 80's cars however.
