Not a rebadged Daewoo but a rebadged Opel yes, the Daewoo was a newer model. |

That Pontiac was made by Daewoo. And the look-alike Daewoo Nexia was based on the Opel (at least the design). -- Last edit: 2007-10-06 11:53:28 |

This is the 80-90s Daewoo LeMans or Daewoo Racer: images/045/075.jpg That car was facelifted in 2000 (or so) to be sold in Europe as the Daewoo Nexia. -- Last edit: 2007-10-06 13:24:10 |

Isn't it a shame, how Pontiac has been crushing down? Compare the Pontiac Le Mans in the past and now: /vehicles_make-Pontiac_model-LeMans.html Starting as an impressive big U.S.-size-car, ended as a rebadged Opel Kadett E resp.Daewoo. From a German point of view, it's not really possible to lower such an reputation. Nowadays Chevrolet is one the same way. In Europe they're selling Daewoos under this name, in Russia the Lada Niva, in Souther America Opel Corsas and Astras. A very big distance to a Bel Air from the 50ies or a Corvette. A colleague drives a 1989 Corvette. When I'm telling him "Your owning the essence of a Daewoo Nexia, a Lada Niva and a Opel Corsa", he cannot lough. He even throws office material to me. Bad guy. |

The Nexia was for sure marketed in Europe many years before 2000. Actually since 1997/98 its successor - Lanos - was available (but the production was still continued for example in Romania - Cielo). -- Last edit: 2007-10-06 15:14:25 |

Yes, Daewoos under the name Daewoo were sold in Europa, too, until the bankruptcy of the company. Was Daewoo completely broken down, or only the car-production? Daewoo Germany was broken down definetely. You still can find Daewoos on our streets, also in advertises. One of the cheapest possibilities in Germany to buy a car. Similar to cars like a Fiat Tempra, an 80ies Ford Escort or sometimes a Opel Kadett E. A roadworthy, running car for less than 100 Euro, sometimes for free. -- Last edit: 2007-10-06 15:14:34 |

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Daewoo#Overseas_engagements The Romanian factory has now been sold to Ford, and IIRC GM has recently bought a minority stake in FSO, which will start assembling GM Daewoo (Chevrolet) cars. -- Last edit: 2007-10-06 15:32:54 |

Ingo you mean the section which produced coolers, TV sets etc. I don't know much about it, but actually they dissapeared from the shops. But about the cars - the Korean Daewoo wasn't actually in so bad situation because has been quicly took over by the GM, the real drama was in the European branches. Edit. The last novelty which as I see isn't yet on the Wiki is that GM made a j.v. with FSO (GM-FSO) which will produce GM-DAT Chevrolets for the European market. First one since this month. Actually the FSO produced and assembled in the 1990's nearly all Daewoo models not only these two, and from there most of them were exported to the European countries. The Romanian plant has been took over by Ford. -- Last edit: 2007-10-06 15:39:39 |
