A bit unusual grill like for the European 244, no?. Government's cars? -- Last edit: 2007-10-03 18:32:12 |

No, I don't think so. The grill looks like usual for 1977 Volvo 244 @Weasel: as I wrote to the Golf I: these Volvo 244 were bought in 1977 by the GDR, because the Soviet Union has cancelled shortly delivering enough Lada's. "IBM" was a combination from East Berlin. In the people's mouth this means "Ich bin Millionär", because often you could find this IBM on Western cars (which were only available for the nomenklatura, people with Western money or very good relations). -- Last edit: 2007-10-03 21:02:10 |

That's the Rotes Rathaus, isn't it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotes_Rathaus |

not 1977. They should be 1979 and some of them probably Diesel, as they have a "long nose" In 1977 they were still shaped like 1975 models Here are nice examples year by year: http://www.volvo200.org/modellen/modellen.htm |

Approximate 1000 Volvo 244DLS (De Luxe Special; specialmade for GDR)were in 1977-78 delivered. The "special" features are the 6-cylindre-grill, special-colors and other odds and ends. Only the B21A was built in, no Diesel. @Ingo: hast du zufällig einen Filmitschnitt :-) |

So this is a 'made for GDR' version? |
◊ 2007-10-13 16:27 |
...only for GDR |

@jan244: sorry, habe ich nicht. Achte mal auf die Ost-TV-Sender, MDR, rbb und so. Da werden DDR-Filme oft wiederholt. -- Last edit: 2007-10-14 16:02:50 |

Completely off-topic, but I've just come across some photos of North Korea which include, among other things, a conviy of three green Volvos. Since it's North Korea (where private car ownership is almost unknown), they're more or less bound to be government cars. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=536375 |

@wickey and volvoist: Yesterday I've watched a TV-reportage about the pre-1990 East Berlin. There was a scene from the horse-racetrack Hoppegarten. In the background there was a long-wheelbase Volvo 245, with two back side-windows, used for initialising the race-speed. Belonged this car to the other, Bertone-made Volvo's for the GDR, or was it not an unique version? |

I believe, that you saw a 245 T - Transfer - very rare version of 245 http://img181.imageshack.us/i/transfer16vm.jpg/#q=volvo%20245%20transfer |

Ah, yes, it looked like this one, thanks for the pic. |

@wickey: a page only for the "Made for DDR"-Volvo's: http://www.volvo244dls.de.tl/ Do you know it? it seems to be "jan244"'s homepage. -- Last edit: 2009-10-13 21:06:15 |

Anyone for the Fiat 125 in the background left? Is it Italian or Polish? It has DDR-plates. |
◊ 2011-12-30 20:29 |
Polish - round headlights. |
◊ 2011-12-30 20:31 |
Worth to list anyways, as it was a high-priced and rare car in the DDR - and nearly not to get anymore since the atmosphere between the two socialist brothers were frozen down after 1980. |
◊ 2011-12-30 21:26 |
For sure less common than inventions of the other soc-bros, but in fact not so very rare with 43.340 cars sent there. -- Last edit: 2011-12-30 21:28:42 |
