Released very early in 1987 as 1988 models. They were manufactured alongside the old "rounded-line" trucks they were to soon replace. They entered production in late 1986 and were introduced around April of 1987 as 1988 models. The rounded-line trucks were manufactured up until August of 1987.

This is also why GM named the 1987 model rounded-line trucks the R/V-Series, as the all-new í88 trucks took over the C/K-Series name. GM figured it would be confusing to have the old and the new sharing the same name whilst being built and sold at the same time.

With that change, GMís truck engineering took a step forward, but truck fit & finish qualtiy took a step backward.

Is this a Silverado model?

Yes, itís in Silverado trim, unfortunately. This generation helped degrade the prestigious Silverado name that the previous rounded-lines had established.

The exterior & interior were cheapened, no longer made from high quality materials and so forth. Panel gaps and seams were sometimes left to be desired, I wonder if the assembly workers were rushed with these trucks.

The Silverado name was finally stripped of all itís grandeur when it was applied as the model name for all-new 1999 model trucks. I guess GMís executive decision to use that name came from hoping buyers might associate the once great name of high quality and luxury with the new trucks.
