The best that I can offer is that they were built at that factory. Daimler’s built the prototype vehicles according to Wikipedia, but production was awarded to Leeds. Presumably Alvis was busy with CVR(T) at the time and Vickers with main battle tanks. Looks like that may have been my error! The ROFs were under state ownership until 1987, so may have been given some help to keep the work in-house. Alvis at the time was a commercial entity.
