Ah, yes. The Newport series. The last on-highway cabover ever sold by International (they would make a medium duty cabover, the CityStar, in a joint venture with Ford, using a Mazda Titan cab and F-Series chassis components). Interesting fact: the Newport series actually continued production until 2015, after tooling was moved to Brazil following the domestic discontinuation in 1998, primarily for Chile, Bolivia, and RHD models for Australia and South Africa. |

Small International logo in the lower left side of the grille instead of a large silver one above the grille with IH in the bottom of this latter: not the front face of a 1981½ COF-9670 for sure (F because of the tandem rear axle), but the one of a 1987-88 COF-9670 or of a 1989-96 9600. The shape of the louvers above the grille could be the clue of a 1987-88 version (1), but what seems to be a grey International logo could also indicate a 1993+ truck... ⇒ 1987 9670 by default. _____ 1: apparently 2x4 columns which stop before the top of the grille on the 9670 vs. 2x3 reaching the grille on a 9600? Or do these louvers only depend on the engine? |
