Useful point. There is an explanation, but a fiddly one. The Mk2 came out in Sept 48 with open rear spats, and for the first year until Sept 49 had round sidelights. Its second year until Aug 50 had rectangular sidelights as did Mk3, which brought enclosed spats. UMG 888 was Middlesex, May 49 to May 53 "allocated in blocks" (or to May 52 from another source), which doesn't help. However another change with Mk3 was shiny tread plates on running boards, which I think are present on all 3 sightings making them all the same Mk3, but seen twice without the spats - probably removed for convenience. |
