"In 1979, Liberal party leader Jeremy Thorpe was tried for his involvement in the attempted murder of his former gay lover Norman Scott. This programme about the political forces that tried to protect Thorpe was made on the assumption that he would be found guilty, but was scrapped when a not-guilty verdict was returned and remained unseen for almost 40 years. It was revived and shown for the first time in 2018 in an updated and re-edited form alongside the dramatisation A Very English Scandal following the death of Thorpe which prevents him bringing actions for libel."

"A staggering 1.6 million people tuned into BBC Panorama's The Jeremy Thorpe Scandal last night - the highest ever audience for BBC Four since 2011. In fact the rating is higher than a Panorama documentary normally gets on BBC1."

Have grabbed the best entries, but not pursued anything from the various bits of stock archive street scenes and only skimmed the 1979 reconstructions for interesting backgrounds.

Reject - Thorpe with Rover P6

- no other view, but likely to be a 1971-73 3500 S - full vinyl roof, before 74+ tints.

Well helped by BBC One's continuity announcer who mentioned the program just when the end credits of "A Very English Scandal" started to roll. And I switched over too. A very interesting program it was. Seeing and hearing the real Jeremy Thorpe made me appreciate Hugh Grant's performance better.
