The Comet 4 must have felt rather outdated compared to the 707 even back then. |

The Comet 1 first flew in 1949, the Boeing 8 years later. (6 years if you count the prototype from which it was developed.) As usual in engineered products, there is a penalty in being first and the Comet paid it. That said, I always felt safer climbing into a Boeing, having been around when the Comet crashes were making news. -- Last edit: 2022-07-18 09:38:44 |

However, the comet 4 has an irresistible classic design... I think it's beautiful. The 707 is a spectacular plane for its time...practically its design remains valid 64 years later |

I like the DH.106 too, except for the tail section. It looks like something you'd see on a DC-6 or some other piston airliner - it sticks out like a sore thumb. They should have went for that of the 1947 concept instead. The Caravelle is decidedly my favourite design of the early jetliners, it's perfect. |

Oh indeed, the Caaravelle is delicious with its triangular windows. And let's not forget the quirky Tupolev designs of the 1950s. |
