I felt like the only appropriate film to watch today, would be one starring the grande dame of the Nouvelle Vague, Jeanne Moreau. Her best movies would be in the following years (in my opinion); although she plays her role as a femme fatale well here, as always. She will be greatly missed; RIP Jeanne. |

Dear 50sParis, I totally agree with what you wrote. I have to admit that we didn't have such a PERFECT actress in Italy. I especially love her in "Ascenseur pour l'échafaud" and "La marié etait en noir" among the other unforgettable movies. I could sound stupid but I feel as having lost a relative, an old loved aunt... -- Last edit: 2017-08-01 15:17:49 |

I can relate to your feelings, Moreau was my favourite actress of the era. With regards to Italian cinema, personally I think Monica Vitti is a great actress as well, especially in Antonioni's trilogy (which are masterpieces). She also resembles Moreau in terms of style; slow, pensive, at times melancholic. They starred together in La Notte (1961), but Moreau got depressed after playing her role in that movie. |
