There are for sure more interesting cars than what I listed, but for that it would be better to use the original DVD (or at least a better source than what I have). My pictures are quite small, so if somebody can do better, they can be replaced and completed There is a car chase, between a taxi and ... King Kong |

I read somewhere that some cars are CGI. |

I just read Peter Jackson's biography and according to that some of the cars were CG and some were real |

If you watch the chase you notice which ones are real and which ones arent, the same for panoramics of New York |

I have the DVD of the extended edition. I can get some better screengrabs of both the listed vehicles and of the ones not listed (like all the army vehicles). I'm also working on getting grabs from the original. I figure I as well do all three since I already finished the '76 movie. |

Here some of the extra vehicles in case anyone is willing to list them: That's a pick-up: All in the backround: Looks like a Ford Panel Van (the white one at the bottom): Ford Model A pickup: yellow car in the background (probably a 1917 REO Touring Car): Essex or Rolls-Royce? (white car on the left): A plethora: The final scene: From what I've heard, between 60 and 70 vintage cars in New Zealand were used in the movie. -- Last edit: 2013-03-13 05:48:52 |

I'll put this one on top again as there are so many unknowns. |
◊ 2017-03-16 03:21 |
I'm horrible with pretty much all pre-1956 vehicles so I can't help you here |
◊ 2017-03-16 08:47 |
The white car has every appearance to make it an Essex, and nothing to suggest it is a Rolls-Royce. |
◊ 2017-03-17 10:13 |
Added a page for the white Essex. |
◊ 2017-04-26 20:20 |
Regarding my King Kung Fu comment, I added the page and submitted 17 vehicles for it. |

Wow. So many cars listed as "unknown." |
◊ 2018-08-08 04:34 |
All pre-1955 cars are completely out of my "syntax" I suppose. |

2019 update........twenty five fully restored and pristine vintage cars were provided and driven during filming by their owners, the props team needed vehicles which could be converted into taxis, delivery vans, military and police vehicles, plus stunt vehicles which could be crashed or crushed, so they sourced scrap yard/barn find uncomplete vehicles with bits missing and were made good as driveable movie props.because the vehicles were New Zealand based, they were all right hand drive so a special vehicles unit was established to get the junkers into working order and convert them to left hand drive.any that were mechanically dead were given a face lift and positioned on set as parked cars.exterior features such as police lights and taxi lights were made by the props makers as were all the period prop license plates ,70 pairs of license plates were made in collusion with a book author who had just completed a book on collecting thirties vehicle license plates.random letters and numbers were chosen to represent various license plates but they had to be sent to Universal to go through a legal process in order to ensure the prop license plates did not match a current load legal vehicle...the taxi that Kong chases was fitted with a modern souped up engine for speed and handbrake turns...but it caused problems post production as the effects team could not match the speed of the souped up car with the sound of a ford model a period engine. |

I don't think that "collusion" is the word you are looking for. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/collusion |
