Judging by the vents of the engine lid, it's a 1972 model year 1302. |

I agree with you, Rpcm, that it's a 1972 model. But according to my infos, also the "1300" with 44 or 50 bhp engine had 26 horizontal vents in the bonnet (like this one). I found these infos in "VW Käfer - Ein Auto schreibt Geschichte - Erlebnisse, Daten & Fakten von 1930 bis heute" written by Dr. Ulrich von Pidoll (Nikol, Hamburg, 1997). To identify between 1300, 1300 S or 1302 we'll need to see the logo or the shape of the front of the car... |

DynaMike, my first visual association related with this type of engine lid combined with these rear lights is to a 1302, because at the time very few 1300 were sold in comparison to the 1302 ( at least in Portugal ) and that memory remained. So, I agree with you when you mention the possibility of the 1300. Yet, it seems the rare 1300 S was a 1973 model year car and had 1303-style rear lights, as can be seen here in this complete and interesting article: http://www.flat4ever.com/showthread.php?t=31070&highlight=corail |
