'739 ??G' or similar registration number for future reference as it may reappear later in the series or be found elsewhere.

The 1935 to 1940 cars should be referred to as SS Jaguar, followed by the engine size as the SS company did not become Jaguar Cars until March 1945.

If plate is 123 ABC format it's almost certainly a re-registration or a fake on anything this old. "Numbers first" seem to have started in 1953 (with Staffordshire being the first issuing authority).

Staffordshire was, of course, in the lead with reversed registrations and was in the lead with three letter registrations as well. Where we lead, others follow.

Yes,"Made in Staffordshire" is a synonyme for advanced Hightech. If I would have the chance, to find my favorite Staffs-car again, I would take it. That one, I've bought for my brother-in-law,

is unfortunately too damaged to get a correct, TÜV-approved registration :(
He sold it to a collector of microcars. To be noted: the damages, which makes it unrepairable, are not caused by the maker, all of them are caused by uncapable cobblers, who owned it before!

Before the 1974 local government reorganisation of county boundaries, we could add the following makes:-

Jensen, Sunbeam, Guy, Turner, Meadows, all from the Black Country, amongst others, and of course the Baguley from Burton on Trent. If you add the excellent ceramic products, and the world's best bitter ales, there is really no reason for any other county to exist!

Sounds all as reasons to hold the next IMCDb-user-meeting there
A half year ago I was close to travel again to Southwest Britain, becaue my wife has found a marvellous ancient monk chair at eBay - but I was too stupid to bid for it immediately, so we lost that unique chance :(
But well, it's more than likely, that the successor of my Vauxhall -if it gets broken some day- may also be from a British source. It makes sense to exploit the Brexit-discount and the in any case lower used car prices in Britain.
At the time I'm still to coward to purchase something from the johnfromstaffs-brand, but a top range Range Rover as a first try to enter the Premier League (o.k.,besides the K 70) is already shortlisted.

The only Mk.IV I can find with a 739 xxx plate is 739 UXL (1948 3½ Litre saloon) but it's 2-tone brown and white - https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3735/19763337332_edf7ffe41a_b.jpg , http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5479/30757702975_4c68bf6381.jpg

My guess for the plate here is ABC 123 format, with something like TSY/TST/TGY/TBT, but no candidates found.
