Registered as a "Volkswagen 113021". Does anyone know what that means ? |

A possible interpretation: first '1' could be for 'Typ 1', then model '1302', but no idea for the last '1' |

Found it, here it's explained: http://www.buggyvrienden.eu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3507#p37610 1st digit is TYPE 2nd digit is MODEL 3rd digit is VERSION (LHD/RHD) 4th digit is TRIM LEVEL 5th digit is ENGINE 6th digit is TRANSMISSION So a 113021 is a VW Typ 1 1200 with LHD, standard trim, 1300cc engine and manual transmission. -- Last edit: 2016-08-31 11:45:03 |

And a 1200 with a 1300cc engine wasn't called a 1300 ? |

Emden-produced (and later until 1985) models in the 1974-1985 range were generally called 'VW 1200' or '1200 L', and were available with a 1200cc engine as like with a 1300cc or a 1600cc. https://www.volkswagen-classic.de/modelle/kaefer-1200-1200l-1973-1985 Link to "de.wikipedia.org" -- Last edit: 2016-08-31 12:33:40 |

The 1200 was available as 1200 or as 1200L/S/LS after the 1300 was removed from the market, MY1975 onwards, at the time the Golf I arrived. L for more chrome, S for the 1.3, later 1.6 engine. The 1200 body would anyway start with '111' for a LHD 1200. '113' means a LHD 1300, the only year with these taillights was 1974. The flow-through (it later was available for the 1200 as well), the engine vents and the chrome all fit. So this is rather a 1974, as already listed, VW 1300. |

questions: - the wings aren't wide enough for a 1303, yes? - was there a 1200/1200 L with the chrome badge on the engine lid? - had the 1974 1200 chromated bumpers? - were metallic paints available for the 1200? (But I'm unsure, if this is hellasmetallic) |

@ingo: -The 1302/1303 started with 131 (LHD Non-US), but the answer would rather be, AFAIK they all had the wider wings/fenders and 1303 taillights 1974+ -Indeed, the 1200 LS even had a 1300S badge (!) -In L trim, so a 1200 LS would have this and the engine vents (with a larger engine) but not (yet) flow-through vents -Later models had that option, at least, but not 1974 1200 In my link above you will find the 113021 as a 1300 without a sunroof, 1.3 engine and manual gearbox. (For 1976-77, the 1200 L in the brochures have chrome window trim, they also had gained flow-through vents and were available as 1200 LS, with vents like the subject car. A bulgy 1975+ rear apron would indicate a 1976-77 1200 LS, but by the 1200 base they would still be model 111, so not very likely) |
