This car has American styling but I think it could be something from East Europe. The wheels and lights look odd. |

The nearest I can come by here is a Czech Praga Piccolo Luxus sedan ca 1932.It is a high narrow car with right hand drive , 2 side windows , rather flat and small headlights , dual sidemounts and a rear boot.Hubcaps look unusual but may well be later add ons. |

So it can be an Oświęcim-Praga, a Polish made Praga - I must check this. Are we sure it is a 1932, rather 'pre' or 'post'? I think the brown car (first on the right), is very similar: http://www.autoclassic.pl/koncerny/praga.html -- Last edit: 2007-03-14 15:00:45 |

I put circa 1932 because I have pictures of a Czech 1932 matching well. But I agree that early thirties Piccolos were quite similar as is the Polish-Praga you are showing here on the autoclassic page.I cannot tell for sure if the Polish Pragas also had right hand drive , but if so and in the context of the movie it may be Polish.I am more intrigued by the origin of the fully chromed hubcaps but as I said they may be later ad ons as are the white sidewall tires. |

On to site on which Ralf has found a BMW, I've found this car, I think: http://www.motoforum.pl/Oldtimer/20.jpg http://www.motoforum.pl/Oldtimer/galeria1.html Hudson Essex from 1927, the same, no? But indeed Praga is very similar. -- Last edit: 2007-03-14 14:57:12 |

Being a car located in Poland and with those odd hubcaps you may be right on the Essex ,but then the year , 1927, seems totally unrealistic. In 1927 closed model Essexes still had rear hinged "suicide" front doors, wood spoke wheels and were not factory equipped with bumpers or sidemounts. The rear roof line was much squarer .In this case my view is that it then must be an Essex Brougham for 5 passengers of 1930 with the enclosed rear quarter panels.I think one should be very cautious with information on websites ( we also make errors). The car should be listed as an Essex and not as a Hudson Essex:the Essex was a product of the Hudson Motor Car Co., but was a make on its own in production from 1917 to 1932. |

As I indicated it cannot be a 1927 Essex but is a later car , in my view a 1930 :please consult :American Motors Family Album , Public Relations Department , American Motors, first edition , february 1969, also available on the tocmp site and American Cars 1930 to 1942 by James H. definitely not an Essex. The picture doesn't show much but the wheels gives it away. Essex, (before 1932) never had some big hubcaps on it's wheels. furthermore, a 1932 doesn't have a flat grille and radshell but a rather "V" shape face. Finally the headlights are not Essex and the taillight is not Essex.(therefore, unless someone has done some modifications, which should not be happening in a movie, it's not an Essex) to see all the Essex models, check my website; www.essexcanada.wordpress.com Hope this helps hey! -- Last edit: 2009-11-17 01:40:18 |

In these times Essexes together with Hudsons were assembled by Hudsexway company from Free City of Gdańsk. Accroding to W. Rychter's book "Moje dwa i cztery kółka", Hudsons imported to Poland by Auto-Service were from this assembly plant. Interesting if this well known from movies vehicle could be also made there... Additionally on this forum - http://www.dawnygdansk.pl/forum/viewtopic.php?p=98487 - is to read information that Gdańsk's company with its assmebly plant "had an exclusive representative office for Eastern Europe". This can means that Hudsons and Essexes made in Gdańsk could be to see also in other countries. But what exactly means "Eastern Europe" in this case is not explained. |

Model name is "the Challenger" (yes with a "the") Brougham should be in the extra info. Same with the other entries for this car in other movies. -- Last edit: 2024-02-06 19:05:38 |
