In the entry for a Studebaker US6x4 in The Dirty Dozen, Alexander says that "almost all trucks of that kind were sent to Russia as part of the lend-lease programme". /vehicle_34384-Studebaker-US6x4-U-7-1942.html So using a US6x4 as a Soviet army vehicle is entirely accurate. What's more, because this is an East German production the individual truck seen in the film is probably one that was supplied to the USSR. Perhaps it was given to the Volksarmee at some point or belonged to a Soviet army unit stationed in East Germany. -- Last edit: 2007-03-07 12:55:12 |

Correct, this would be a very accurate vehicle for the film. The US sent many of these Studebaker vehicles as well as Willys & Ford jeeps to the USSR as part of the Lend-Lease Program. Very collectable to find them now w/ cyrillic(?) writing on the data plates. This truck made another appearance years later in the USSR when the cab was split down the middle, widened about 24 inches and rewelded. The wider cab with three windshield panels can be seen on many of the large fully tracked missle launching & radar guiding vehicles of the USSR military into the early 1990's. |

"US6x4" may be the correct nomenclature. I believe it is the same as the all wheel drive just "x4" instead of "x6". |
