Same grill, same headlights, same trim as the Tempo. Any pictures? It is identicle to a 86' Tempo.

The bars in that Tempo's grille are thicker, the hoodline doesn't dip down like on this car, and if you look closely, you can see the mirror is mounted on a post (as opposed to directly on the door like on the Tempo).

its a pre-88 ford escort. I had the unfortunate pleasures of enduring a 89 escort with its terrible 3 speed automatic and 90HP. So many recalls on that car.

In 1988 the body panels were reworked and refreshed a bit and I can tell this isn't a reworked one.

They first used those headlights on the Escort in mid-year '85. I would say this is an '86-'88 Ford Escort.

My dad had an '81 with a 4-speed manual and I had a friend who had an '87 with a 5-speed manual. Great cars for driving around town if you got a stick shift. Horrible if you're trying to go up a hill on the highway.

i didn't really have much of a choice on trannys when i was in one, or else I would have chose the manual. :( I will say this though...as much as I despised that car and as many recalls as it had, it outlasted a couple other cars we had at the time...actually it lasted until 1997 when it was traded in for a new accord.
I never had to deal with hills where I live though. :p

Alot of my family members at the time also had escorts, but they were 2 door "pony" models. They all seemed to like their escorts though...my uncle even took his to the UK when he was in the service.

Heh, my dad's Escort lasted him twenty years. Great little car and it was pretty reliable until a few years ago. Then things just started breaking (timing belt, clutch pedal, solenoid, window regulator, etc). I screwed up the carburator trying to put in a new fuel filter (striped the threads) and that was the last nail in the coffin. He traded it in for a used Focus last year. I loved the Escort. I learned to drive stick-shift in it. I had a lot of childhood memories in that car. It was just a low-level Escort L with no power features (no power brakes, no power steering, no trip odometer, no power anything), but it was a special car to me.

It's definately a 1986- 1988 Escort. They never made a Tempo hatchback.

If there is the CHMSL, then it is 1986-88 otherwise it is the 1985.5-88 model year.
