No. These pre-1987 oval plate and also the actual one with the red bar on the right https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ausfuhrkennzeichen are entirely export-plates, never valid for imports. ![]() -- Last edit: 2016-05-08 21:25:32 |

My theory: This car was bought by an American citizen (hence the AAA badge) living in Germany. The "Statistic Yearbook of the German Reich 1936" lists the United States as the only country selling high numbers of cars to Germany. When the political climate in Europe changed in the years after 1936 (Sudeteten crisis etc.), the American citizen probably went back to the US, and took his car with him - which explains the export plate. |
