From a 2011 forum thread:
- KBV 259S is a blue Chevanne also alive and well with a TV hire vehicle company . .

- All Chevannes are an estate shell with panels welded in the window apertures, a fibreglass one piece panel then bolts onto the outside, they even still have the holes and rubbers in place for the opening rear windows . . .

- All Chevanne log books should read Bedford Chevanne, as they were marketed by Bedford (which were usually Vauxhall dealers anyway) as a Chevanne and type approved as a Chevanne, and all Chevette Estates are Vauxhall Chevette Estates . . . . well . . . .apart from one or two Opel Chevette estates that were sold in Germany after Kadett production stopped, and obviously the Holden Gemini and Isuzu Gemini in other markets. To convert a Chevette estate to a van would be simple enough, weld in plates in the window apertures and then buy (if you can find them) a pair of Chevanne sidepanels , weld the rear seat down and add a small bulkhead, or leave the seat as is and just fold it down when you need to. To turn a van into an estate (sacrilege) then you'd need to remove the sidepanels, cut out the metal panels and fit windows, and then cut the weld in the floor and fit a rear seat - simples.

hi,

This is my van, rescued it from being scrapped by the film company. Needed to change engine, gearbox and sort out some bodywork issues as it had been sat a long time.

It is now a working van, having done over 10k miles since i put it on the road early last year.

Currently has a problem with the replacement engine but is otherwise alive.

Additional news :-

There are around 12 Chevannes left according to DVLA.

This Chevanne was originally Ember Red, it was painted white by the last road owner, a decorating firm from Yorkshire, run by a guy called Barrie. The last Tax disc it had was 1998 .

Barrie ironically converted it back to an estate to run his family around in. this was common as being registered as a commercial vehicle, companies could run them. So "bosses" invariably bought them to use as family cars *cough* under the work guise.

I traced Barrie and his Son who runs the business now. He said they fitted the sunroof it has and used to take the glass out so they could stand up through it when going along.

The back seat they fitted was still there when i bought it, half of it i have taken out as i fitted some workshop LifePo4 cells under the seat frame and use it as a van.

When the movie people got it they took out the side windows and replaced the metal blanking panels. They did not however have the fibreglass panels to put back on so although not visible in the film pic above, they are not there.

You can see the cut down hard board side panels here from when the car was estate converted. I had some replicas made up to replace these.

The movie people painted it blue (badly, a blow over and chrome trim got painted too, i have since remove that paint from the chrome.) and if you look at the pic above you will see the bumpers had been painted grey, i guess this reduces sun glare for camera work? I have replaced the bumpers with chrome ones.

The Van has been named Barrie , Barrie the Bedford. I have two other Chevannes, one called Crusty due to it's condition and the other Bert, a major rebuild job in progress. Bert maybe the oldest on the road, once he is back on it.. Barrie may hold that title at present as DVLA shows 1 for his year.

You may see it around the country loaded up with ladders and stuff or occasionally at shows. It is in no way concourse condition , but this year is the 40th anniversary of the Chevanne so he may appear in more shows this year :)
