E36 M3 convertible was only offered in 1999 in Australia, making it very rare. The M3 convertible wouldn't re-appear again until 2003. EDIT: actually, I don't think this is a real M3. It has the old pre-facelift grille. The plate was issued in 1997, which doesn't make sense either because it doesn't match the grille. The wheels and indicators fit an older M3 3.0, but obviously that isn't possible in AUS, guessing it wouldn't be possible to import one so assume someone just made a replica. |

In theory it's possible, if someone was living overseas (say, the UK) and then brought it back as a personal import. |
