A Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III (or a Bentley S3 Continental) with the 'Chinese Eye' Mulliner/Park Ward coupé body. |

Nice ID - I couldn't work this one out. As far as I can tell, seems each had production figures of about 320 - eg http://www.rrab.com/rsc3.htm#top , http://www.rrab.com/bs3.htm#top - so someone may have to toss a coin. |

Well spotted by Fortengo, I had no idea what it was. The production quantities shown above appear to be the total numbers of cars bodied by all coachbuilders. I have seen numbers for the "Chinese Eye" models varying between 12 and 76 for Bentleys, I will do some more digging. |

I have now found the book that contains the numbers for the Bentley S3 Continental chassis, all of which received bespoke coachwork. Total S3 Continental chassis supplied 312 H.J.Mulliner bodies 68 Park Ward bodies 148 James Young bodies 20 H.J.Mulliner,Park Ward bodies 75 Graber bodies 1 Drophead coupe based on S3 chassis with standard steel shell and the top removed by HJM 1 How this breaks down into the number of HJM/PW "Chinese Eye" cars is anybody's guess, and I know nothing about the Royce cars. Source of information "Twenty Years of Crewe Bentleys 1946-1965" published by the Bentley Drivers Club in 1973. Wikipedia gives the total as 311, but does not mention the Graber car. -- Last edit: 2013-09-23 13:57:27 |

I'm currently preparing a book on RR&B "Chinese Eye" model cars. From the detail in the photos I can only deduce it's a right hand drive Coupe. This could make it either Rolls Royce or Bentley. Both were made by the then merged coach builder Mulliner and Park Ward (commonly referred to as MPW). However from that data alone I can confirm if it is a Rolls it is 1 of 70 cars made (the most common Chinese Eye variant) and if it's a Bentley it's 1 of 80 cars made (again the most common variant)......... If you can call 70 and 80 "common". Surprisingly the rarest is the left hand drive Bentley Coupe. Just 26 produced. Hope this helps. |
