X-Something was the Renault internal code for cars developed after 1979. As vehicle unveiled in 1969, the Renault 12 can't have anything else than a R + 4 digits Renault code. Moreover, X17 was only given to the 1981-99 Dacia 1310 / 1410. As export car, this R12 has a R1172, R1174, R1178 or R1179 code. But unless someone knows the export code for the North American market, wouldn't it be more accurate to just give it the generic R117 code? ⇒ 1974 Renault 12 Station Wagon [R117]? |

Maybe I should replace all X17 by R117 ? |

I think it would give these cars a more accurate code, the same way it was made with the X18→R118 change of the R6 (thanks for it, by the way). -- Last edit: 2015-02-03 21:24:49 |

The best thing is to find exact code for US-version. |

It would be a good thing to do indeed. Maybe by finding a picture of a US repair manual: if made like European ones, most of them have the code written on the cover. But meanwhile, the generic R117 (fr) code could "take up the job" for all Renault 12 with this wrong code. See the results of a Renault R117 search with duckduckgo, with Ggl or with your preferred search engine. Same research on Renault X17 will only give... some IMCDb results. -- Last edit: 2015-02-04 16:33:19 |
