Could we get a better-quality pic of this one (night cub)? I don't have the later seasons |

I'm reluctant to watch the sixth season...much of the cast, including Larry Wilcox, were replaced and the quality of the show supposedly took a nosedive - what did you think? |

Depends what you're watching it for. Chips was never master-class in terms of acting or writing, but S6 was rock-bottom on both. The Wilcox-Estrada pairing worked out well (even if off-screen was contentious). For S6, the Ponch character changed, he became the responsible one and not the fun one, it didn't suit Estrada well. It's odd seeing Eric always being serious. Lots of after-school special plotlines too. All the new actors were awful. Looks like they were all hired from a modelling agency and not real actors. Bruce Penhall was a motobike racer, Tina Gayle was a cheerleader before Chips. The chemistry was bad between Estrada and Tom Reilly, who was now the wild rookie. Once Reilly was arrested during the season for drug possession, it got even worse. Estrada knew that the show was very popular with young kids, and Reilly made a poor role model. He got shoved aside so Estrada could work on training cadet Penhall. The other problem with S6 (and S5) is that they lost highway settings to use (All the freeways they used before completed construction), so many of the storylines had nothing to do with the highway patrol. They also had many absurd plotlines (UFOs, Richard Simmons, Ponch modelling, those mini-bikes, Devil Worship Rock & Roll, nudists, a one-episode love story for Ponch, an orangutan, a hitchhiking sick kid that no one thinks to contact his parents). But despite the setbacks, if you watch it for the cars and crashes, then it still is worthwhile. Not every episode is worth it, but most have it. DVR the eps and FF through the stunted dialogue. |

Ah, I see. I might watch S6 just for the sake of completion since I've enjoyed what I've watched so far (still on S1 ), the show can be cheesy at times but it's wonderful to watch. I used to watch re-runs of the show in the 1990s with my Dad back then so I've got a sweet spot for it. Thanks! |
