Plate matches to this one: http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/18211/lot/324/ but the colour of the car and interior are different.

It's a V8 Volante

Is it definitely the same plate? It couldn't be F878PYV or some other number? If so, maybe the plate's been switched or is always possible it was resprayed but that it doesn't say anything about that on that Bonham's site. Although that red one has red trim on the seats, on this one it looks more like brown.

Which was basically what I said in the second comment. If I genuinely was 100% sure it was the same car I'd have listed it as the same model as the one in the link rather than left it as unknown for a week. ;)

That said, it has the bulge in the bonnet which matches a Vantage (and not a V8 of this era which a flatter bonnet) but has no Vantage body kit which the link tells us is a feature of a POW (which was basically a Vantage without the bodykit). So it's either a Vantage POW or a V8 or standard Vantage that someone has tried to make look like one, but the plate is a big coincidence considering only 22 RHD POWs were made, though I guess most cars in the F87x PYV (which is mostly not found on HPI Check aside from 874) would have been Aston Martins, but for me (and I do tend to be fairly good at recognizing distant plates) it is 879.

OK, I've just looked at this site again http://www.astonmartins.com/v8/index.html This is what it says:

"Spotting the POW's are difficult as they are so similar to the series 1 Volantes. All I can suggest is to look for the subtle front air dam, large flared wheel arches, flat boot without a lip, 16 inch (usually Ronal) wheels, Vantage bonnet bulge with the late spec wing mirrors and side indicator repeaters behind the front wheels. Just to make things even more difficult, there are some standard Volantes converted to appear like POW's - and I've been fooled more than once."

So this is what a standard 1986-89 Volante looks like: http://www.astonmartins.com/v8/images/am011218.jpg

And is what a POW Volante looks like: http://www.astonmartins.com/v8/images/am000624.jpg

So this looks like a Prince of Wales spec Volante (unless it's one of those standard ones made to look like POW as mentioned above), but I don't quite believe it's that red one you've linked to. To convince me otherwise I think I'd have to see proper evidence that it was resprayed. This episode was made only 4 years before that one was sold at auction and it doesn't exactly appear in need of restoration. Would someone really have had a collector's item like this resprayed? Or could they have just switched the plate?

Not even I think it is the one I linked, if I did think it was I'd have listed it as a Prince of Wales two months ago rather than leave it as unknown. :p

You seem to be imagining I'm saying something I have not and are arguing against me using the same argument I'm making. :??:

I wasn't trying to argue with you, I was only trying to come to a conclusion. Let's just call it a Prince of Wales and be done with it.

I think this what made me think that you might been wondering if it was the red one:

Sandie wrote the plate is a big coincidence considering only 22 RHD POWs were made, though I guess most cars in the F87x PYV (which is mostly not found on HPI Check aside from 874) would have been Aston Martins, but for me (and I do tend to be fairly good at recognizing distant plates) it is 879.

But I think I only glanced over your comment rather than read it again carefully ;)

I also tend to spell things out sometimes in case anyone else comes to this page at some point and wonders how we reached a conclusion.

F874PYV comes up as green Volante http://www.autochecknow.co.uk/result.aspx?vrm=F874PYV . DVLA details for F874 PYV are:
Date of Liability 01 11 1990
Date of First Registration 26 04 1989
Year of Manufacture 1989
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 5340cc
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour GREEN
Vehicle Type Approval Not Available

- which is slightly puzzling for only 18 months registration from new compared to whatever the ep date was. My thought is to agree 1989 POW as our best effort against what can be seen, without too much worry about 874 or 879. There is an incomplete list of POWs at http://www.v8vantage.com/PoW%20gallery.htm - not much use here, but might help others.
