This P1800 is a 1966 model (not a 1965)and is the highest mileage car in the world, recognized by the Guinness Book of Records, with now over 2.6 million miles on it. The car belongs to Irv Gordon of New York, USA and continues to be a daily driver and still making cross country trips across the USA.

Looks to be in damned good shape for a 2,600,000 mile car!!! Even for a 260,000 mile car!!! Guarantee she's had at least a repaint or two,and the seats redone??? (Esp.the drivers front seat....those've taken a beating in a very high mile car? Trust me...I've had a couple old vehicles I've gotten 300,000+ out of.)

If and when Mr.Gordon takes his last ride("That" last ride...)Volvo needs to put this car in their museum?? I can't compete on total miles...I've driven probably that much, but not all in -one car-? Also,my highest mileage car,I was it's at least it's 3rd owner? And my est.of total miles on this car,a 1972 model I bought in '85,may be low by 100,000 mi? ("04,xxx" at time of purchase, over 10 yrs old,so it's "Exempt" on mileage stated on Title? Assuming it was 104,000,it was almost 400,000 when I took it out of service to start restoring it?? 204,000? Nearly half a million, some of them very hard regardless of accuracy?)

I've read the story about this Volvo in a classic-car-magazine. Interesting, that this is an privately used car. Usually cars with such extreme high mileages are taxis or so.
The owner of that car told the journalist, that his Volvo's mileage was top of the world, after the previous record-holder was crashed by an accident. It was a 1948 VW Beetle.

Anyways, a former neighbour of me owned a 1970 Mercedes 280 S (W 108) as private car. In Sep.2005, before I moved from there, he was closely before 1,5 Mio km. In Stuttgart is still running a taxi, a Mercedes W 123 Diesel from 1978 with actually more than 1,8 Mio km.
In late 1996 I've told a taxi-driver on Gran Canaria "Your taxi looks really nice and shiny, do you have restored it?" His answer: "No, it's in original condition. it has done 1,5 Mio km until now". It was a Mecedes W 123 Diesel, too.

I've heard from some taxidrivers, that a mileage of more than 1 Mio km was not unusual with the classic Mercedes Diesel-cars (until the release of the W 124 in 1986, this model was not so good any more).

Sometimes in the 80ies Mercedes Benz had made an advertise with the car with the highest mileage in that time. As I've heard, they bought it and put it in their museum. It was a Mercedes 180 D from 1955 or 1957, used as a taxi on an Island in the Mediterrean Sea. I cannot remember, if it was Cyprus or Crete. I had over 2,5 Mio km.

The Volkswagen AutoStadt in Wolfsburg have been idiots. They didn't took a Golf I Diesel, when the owner has offered it after he reached the 1 Mio.km.
