Skilleter ◊ 2010-03-06 23:23	Another excellent piece of research by Sunbar. The car he illustrates is the 1935 version with a paintd radiator grill. The 'Poirot' car is 1934 with chrome grill and projecting trafficators (semifore type turn- indicators). The car could also be a light 12/4 which had the same body. The cockpit view in the foreground is also an Austin- possibly a similar model, but 1936- the winding type windscreen opening mechanism indicates this. The larger type 16 had a horn ring. I owned a 1935 light 12/6, 1966-72 in my youth! It had been well used but was very robust and very slow- maximum about 58mph with its 1.7 liter side valve engine. If one started off in first gear she would roll to a standstill again before I could negotiate a way into second. The brakes when applied on Monday stopped the car on Tuesday--but I loved the old Austin. -- Last edit: 2010-03-06 23:36:20
