Honey's car, and a big part of her work. She often follows, even chases people in it, and it's often the target of sabotage by bad guys. In one episode a bad guy even locks her in the trunk and tries to kill her via carbon monoxide poisoning. In ep. 1.12, Sam (John Ericson, or perhaps his stunt double) dives over the car to rough up a bad guy.

According to my limited research, the factory records list the actual car as chassis serial #CSX2540, and confirms it was leased to the show and its production company. It's now owned by Joyce Yates of Indiana who still brings it to shows.

A museum in Virginia also claimed for years to display the car but according to my research, the factory records don't match up to that car's serial number.

Large number of websites confirm CSX2540 - what was the claimed # for the Virginia museum car?

Description of CSX2540 at http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/930863-post22.html : CSX 2540 was loaned out by Shelby American in 1965 for use in the Honey West TV Detective Series ..... sold by Shelby American in 1966 as a 'used car' for $3900.

@dsl: a forum post claims the one in the Staunton, Virginia museum was #CSX2561. Here's the link:

Useful to note the claim about CSX2561, but it seems an isolated rumour from the description in link (unless it was a 2nd car used later in series??). CSX2540 has such a high number of references that I think it's a safe connection.

I was noting it just for clarification. The museum/car owners claimed it was used in the show...but I don't believe it was.

I see this car every year at the Shelby meet at the Brown County State Park by Nashville, Indiana.

This Cobra, CSX2540, is in Massachusetts, as of Sept 2013, and registered in state. It's still white with red leather, chrome wire wheels and now has white wall tires. It was displayed at a local classic car show this month, with a narration board mentioning the Honey West television series connection. It's listed as a 1964.

Title should read "1965 Shelby 289 Cobra (CSX2540)"

In the rerun episode earlier today, the 289 was sent swerving off the road and up an embankment by a merry archer shooting a single arrow. Very plausible.
