The 3.4 litre Jag MkI had open rear wheel surround. As pilou's earlier comment for 'The Saint' car.

The 3.4 or as it was later called the MK1, has two body types. The 2.4 has covered rear wheel spats and a smaller (XK 140 or 150) grill while the 3.4 had open rear wheels and a larger grill to provide better cooling. It's in a MK1 3.4 that Mike Hawthorn (F1 World Champion 1958) killed himself! The road-holding with it's narrow track was... special!

I've got a 3.4 and yes, the handling can be a bit hairy in the wet! All later Mk1's had open rear spats and the wider grilles that previously featured just on the 3.4's, even the late 2.4's...

The original footage of the Jaguar heading off the cliff was shot for the episode of The Baron, 'Something for a Rainy Day' /vehicle.php?id=62427#AddComment. This is the so called 'Elstree white Jaguar footage'. It was supposedly deemed quite expensive, and was used extensively in other series by the same production company (Incorporated Television Company, or ITC) like The Champions, The Persuaders and Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased). There was also further footage shot for episode seventeen of this series which appeared in other productions, such as for this little sequence . The giveaway is that the season on the road changes halfway through! Yes, if someone got into a white Jaguar in the late 1960s on British television, there was bound to be trouble.

Also worth noting that despite the foreign plates (black on white background), the car is RHD and the sequence was probably filmed in the UK. The airborne 'Elstree white Jaguar' carried made-up French plates (white on black background) and was also RHD.

As said, seen over and over again many times and filmed at Betchworth Lime Quarry near Dorking, Surrey, UK.

LOL, I saw the screen capture and knew whoever got into the driver's seat of this car was ultimately doomed! It's called the ITC curse.
