For IMLaundryDetergentPowderDb: "Persil" is the most known name in Germany for laundry detergent. Contrary to the UK we don't have Persil as dishwasher detergent.
The model for this classic promo-pic Link to "de.wikipedia.org" was the grandmother of a former girl-friend of me.

Persil is a laundry detergent, Finish is a dishwasher detergent.

You have provoked, that I've rummaged in my eBay-carboard boxes - I definetely had British Persil-dishwasher detergent boxes! This hs surprised me. A British eBayer has used them for K 70-parts.

Anything is called anything these days if it can promote a few more sales, but I can tell you from experience that Finish is the most frequently found dishwasher tablet. Own brands are cheaper, but may not give you a clean plate.

In fact it's the same as with a lot of any kind of other things: it's always thesame stuff, often produced in the same plant, but the brand-companies are using different names, different packagings and sometimes other colour- and aromatic substances. So very often there's no reason to buy the expensive brand.
Same with cars. Why a VW, when you get the identical technnic in a Skoda? Why a Renault, when you can get a Dacia. And a Mercedes-engine you also have in a Ssangyong.

Oh, I just see, that in Britain, France, Ireland and New Zealand Persil is nor from Henkel. In these countries it's produced by Unilever. The same company, which conjures dsl's beloved favourite Link to "blogs.telegraph.co.uk"

"Why a VW, when you get the identical technnic in a Skoda?"

I'm an even bigger fool, I drive (inter alia) an Audi!
